It's All A Bit Futile Really...

Gary thought about this. He knew it was true but he still didn't want to lose his friend. "Rose, please. I dont want to lose another friend! Please dont do this please."

"Wow, you actually do want me to stay. Either that or you're a very convincing liar." She picked up her clothes and began to put them back on, undoing her ponytail and replacing the locket around her neck. "You've won. For now."

Gary stayed silent as the words sunk in. He didnt care what Rose had said. He went over and hugged her tightly. "Rose im sure everything will be better."

She tried to fight against him, but she didn't scream this time. "Better? Yeah, if I'm lucky. Which I'm not."

Gary let go and breathed a sigh of relief. The old Rose wasn't back but at least she wasn't dead.

Sighing, Rose sat down, her back to the water this time, so as not to tempt herself. "I'm married to loneliness," she muttered.

"But you've got us, me and roxy. And you're friends with Cho and loads of other people. You're far from lonely."

"I know, but..." She hesitated for a moment, trying to find the words. "Nobody...nobody loves me..."

"Love isn't everything Rose." Gary sat down next to her but not too close, he didnt want to scare her again.

"That's easy for you to say, you've got it." She stared at the distance between them, measuring it in her mind. "I've been in love so much and nobody ever returns it. Except Simon, but he...he was on drugs."

"I know how you feel." He sighed and looked up at the sky.

"But Andrea...?" Rose stared at him.

"Oh i love her but i jsut know that there's more to life. It may not last and so i just accept that one day she might walk away."

"Well you're brave." Rose stared at the sky too. It was getting a bit dark and the stars were beginning to come out.

"Hardly just sensible!" He smiled at her, trying to be comforting.

She tried to smile back, but it just came out a bit sarcastic. She hadn't meant it to look like that, and she could feel the happy Rose trying to get through. Well, she wouldn't let it. Happiness was faked.
