Going for a walk

Rose was walking alone on the edge of the forest when she spotted Cara. She wandered over to her.
"Nice night." She glanced at the stars. "I'm Rose, by the way."

"Pleased to meet you." She leaned in closer to her. "Look, can I tell you a secret?"

"Thanks." Rose smiled. "I've been dying to tell someone this for ages." She stood up and took a few paces back from where Cara was sitting. "Watch." She said, and her face screwed up in concentration as her body shrunk into that of a fox. She returned to her normal form. "How cool is that?"

"Taught myself." She said proudly. "It was in a really old book in my dad's loft. Don't know why he had it, he's a muggle. Still, I had no idea what animal I would be...bit of a risk really."

"Well, you know, I don't like to boast..." She blushed slightly. "I thought I was going to be rubbish at magic. You see, I'd had absolutely no sign of it for the whole of my childhood. I have heard some embarrassing stories about young wizards and witches, however. Did you have any hairy moments?"

"That's brilliant!" Rose laughed. "I would love multi-coloured hair! I wish I was a Metamorphmagus...that would just be so cool..."

"Who cares? I bet it was funny while it happened." She leaned back on the grass. "Live for the moment, that's what I say."

"You should change that. It's more fun if you don't care." She smirked at her small philosophy. "You could say I'm a bit of a punk. When I was 10 I painted all the road signs near my house so that they all said 'NOWHERE'." She laughed. "It was brilliant! I got seriously told off, but it was ok, because it was poster paint, washed straight off!"

"Lazing has its benefits. My dad once fell asleep on a park bench and when he woke up there was about £5 of loose change in his hat!" She did some quick calculations. "I think that's about 7 Galleons...ish."

"What does he do, your dad?" Rose sat up and hugged her knees.

"Sounds a bit dull...I can see why you're used to the quiet life." Rose took her cloak off; it was surprisingly warm. "I suppose you'll be following in their footsteps? Planning to be an auror?"

"Healer...cool! I'm going to be an inventor. Of spells and gadgets to make muggle items work in the magical world." She sat up, animated. "For example, muggles have this device called a mobile phone, which is a gadget which enables them to talk over long distances. Very useful. But, you have to have signal for it to work, and you can't get that in magical places so I'm working on a spell which means you can get signal anywhere." She fumbled around in her pockets until she produced her phone. "You see?"
